Island take two new points in the Group D

Island were dominant in the second part of the match and won against Sweden.

The first halftime was more or less evened out. It was hard and tense game. Both national teams were striving to win additional two points. There was no room for mistakes. Sweden had one-point lead till minute 16 when, thanks to Haukur Thrastarson, Island caught up and took the lead. After the first 30 minutes, the result was 14:12 for Island.

The second halftime was faster, and Island were more dominant. It was minute 32 when Tumi Steinn Runarsson scored for first Islands three-point lead (15:12). But 10 minutes after that thanks to two brilliant saves of Swedish goalkeeper Sigurdur Dan Oskarsson Sweden had the chance for a tie. Dagur Gautason scored from a fast break and it was 18:18. Island needed team time-out.

After the small break Island got the upper hand back. Key roll had goalkeeper Viktor Gisli Hallgrimsson and Tumi Steinn Runarsson who bring it back to the two-point advantage. And from then on everything want downwards for Sweden. After 3 – 1 series Island had five-point lead (26 – 21), and that was it for Sweden. The final result was 29:24 for Island.

Best player in team Island was Tumi Steinn Runarsson, and Eric Johansson was the best Swedish player.

Haukur Thrastarson scored most points for Island, 8 of them, and Eric Johansson scored 6 for Sweden.
