Denmark better than Norway in the Scandinavian clash

In Group Bs second game Denmark beat Norway in Koprivnica.

Ola Hoftun Lillelien opened the match with two goals for Norway and was greeted with a loud cheer from the stands. The first scorer for the Danish team was Jon Katballe Christensen who put the ball into Norway’s net in the seventh minute. Next four minutes saw great saves by goalkeepers from both side, Norway’s Andre Bergsholm Kristensen and Denmark’s Svend Rughave and that was the longest period without a goal in the first half. Denmark’s 4-0 series made it a bit easier to breathe, but what followed was Norway’s 2-0 series (6:8). In the last few minutes, Denmark’s mistakes left space for the Norwegian team to try to catch up but Thor Christensen’s goal secured a three-goal lead for the Danish (9:12).

The beginning of the second half saw a fantastic Mads Emil Lenbroch’s reaction for a new goal and a four-goal lead by Denmark.  By the end of the 37th minute, Denmark had a comfortable lead (11:18), but Norway’s Viktor Petersen Norberg broke their streak. By the 45th minute, Denmark had the biggest lead in the match, 13:23. Norway’s 3-0 series made Danish head coach Ole Damgaard call a time out, but that didn’t stop Norway from scoring two new goals (18:23). Denmark got back, scored three times before Norway’s Viktor Petersen Norberg broke their streak. With the last whistle of the match and a loud cheer from the stands, Denmark took the win (24:30).

Throughout the whole match, Denmark had a great support in their goalkeeper Svend Rughave, who was also their best player. Norway’s best player was Viktor Petersen.

Top scorer for Denmark was Simon Pytlick with nine goals and for Norway Jorg William Fiala Gjermundnes scored five.

Denmark coach Nielsen Ole Damgaard:

I’m very happy with the performance and the two points, but also the fact that we advance further. Today we had a great flow in our game today and put the ball in the net when we had the chance. I think we already saw that Norway is a very good team. But, the way they play suits my team. Yesterday they had a close game against France and overall it was a terrific match for us.

Denmark goalkeeper Svend B. Rughave: I’m always happy when we perform defensively like this. They gave excellent ‘working conditions’ today and I’m happy. We simply had a very good match today and on Sunday we have to perform as well as we did today.

Norway coach Anstein EngravsliaIt’s hard to say what caused the defeat. In the first few minutes we played well, but later on we had some problems in the attack. Denmark is a strong team, maybe they are on another level of power than us. We struggled in scoring goals in the other part of the game. The guys were disappointed because we have done better than this.

Norway player Viktor Petersen Norberg: We didn’t want the victory enough. Denmark played much smarter and they wanted to win the game more than we did. We started alright in defense, but had problems later which gave them the match. Overall, they were really good, but we had a bad game and didn’t play well enough.

Group B, Round 2:
Norway – Denmark 24:30 (9:12)
